Jamie Borteck
Board Director and Advisor with a portfolio of world-class emerging brands.
My passion for helping emerging “fighter” brands started with my team sports upbringing. I channeled this passion to the business world, and after earning an MBA and learning from the best of leaders at Kraft Foods, I moved to the start-up world and never looked back. Before I knew it, I was teaming up with some of the best founders in the industry at Food Should Taste Good, Justin’s, and Grillo’s and helping them achieve their dreams to iconic brand status and eventual acquisition.
Bringing all my experiences over the last 25 years, I’m enjoying being a part of teams as a board member and helping brilliant founder/CEOs, fellow teammates, and investors keep pushing through challenges and opportunities to win in this competitive team sport of CPG. My mentality is all about seeing the path to growth ahead…growth in sales, growth in margins, growth in people, growth in innovation, and growth across the road of complexity, challenges, opportunities.
Experienced leader in start-up growth with empathy for founder/CEO and the operating team.

How to achieve the dream across the journey ahead…
6P Philosophy for Growth Leadership
Positivity
Emerging brand life has so many ups and downs across the journey. I believe I’ve been successful in a lot of areas of growth because of that half-full, can-do attitude and a sense of belief for the opportunities out there. It starts with attitude and energy and an ability to see through the negatives that can come up. To paraphrase Harry Truman “A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of one’s opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of one’s difficulties.”
Patience, Persistence, and EmPathy
Aristotle once said “Patience can be bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” Patience is probably one of the hardest things for many founders and key leaders to work through. But the combo of patience and persistent focus on the things that matter most can help you grow faster. Michael Jordan once said “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” So when bumps come your way—as they will in the start-up world—ask your yourself what’s the next action I can take? But be respectful in your persistence. Put yourself in other person’s shoes and treat them like you want to be treated. It’s all about emPathy.
Planning and Preparation
I’ve found in business, just like in sports and many aspects in life, you won’t grow to your potential if you don’t plan ahead and prepare to be successful. Seeing what’s next, how do we maximize the top priorities ahead? I’ve found “time” is one of those biggest challenges, and you can’t afford to run out of time with the opportunities in front of you.
